Our mission is to champion black culture through visual art and support the next
generation of artists.
In 2014, London-based art lover Sebastian Thiel struggled online to find visual art
depicting black people and cultures from around the world, so he created the
Instagram account @dopeblackart and started sharing the works of his favourite
artists. Very quickly, the content Sebastian posted resonated with people across the
world.
What started out as a hobby sharing dope art featuring black culture to a few
hundred people has since blossomed into a loyal community of 800K+ artists and
art lovers.
DBA has an artist database of over 1000 exceptionally talented creators from
around the world and includes painters, sculptors, concept artists, cartoonists,
muralists, animators, storyboard artists, potters, ceramicists plus more.
Our platform amplifies the unique voices of artists in our community and we’ve
helped ignite the careers of many by creating commission opportunities from our
advertising partners like Disney, HBO, Netflix and BBC.
